Top 5 Racing Fixtures Over Christmas

Looking to get out and watch some racing over the Christmas period? Well, here are the top 5 racing days for you to attend at one of the Arena Racing Company tracks between 18th December and 31st December. 

 

1. Betway Quebec Stakes – Lingfield – 18th Dec

Kick start the festive period with a visit to the Surrey countryside. The Betway Quebec Stakes (Listed) is run over 1m2f and is open to horses aged 3 years or older. A very competitive race that has been won by some very good horses in the past including Wissahickon, Dubai Warrior and Sangarius. Worth over £40,000 and a fast-track qualifier for All Weather Finals Day at Newcastle on 15th April it is sure to be competitive race. Also, on the card there are two Class 2 races worth a combined £40,000.

2. Boxing Day – Wolverhampton – 26th Dec

Boxing Day has become one of the most popular Wolverhampton racecourse fixtures in the calendar. The racing matches the excitement of the day with an action-packed card with three Class 2’s on the card worth a combined £60,000.

3. Coral Welsh Grand National – Chepstow – 27th December

The highlight of the festive period! The pride of Wales, the Coral Welsh Grand National. The roll of honour of winners of this great race carries some very special names, and features some who have gone on to win the Grand National itself at Aintree, including Silver Birch, Bindaree and Earth Summit.

The 2019 and 2020 running’s have been extra special with both being won by Welsh trainers. Potters corner finally broke the hoodoo in 2019. It had been 53 years since the last Welsh trained horse had won the race (Norther in 1965 – trained by D Jenkins).

4. Silver Vase Mares’ Steeple Chase – Doncaster – 29th Dec

Introduced in 2014 it is the first in the series to promote National Hunt Mares. It’s short history has been dominated by the very popular Lady Buttons who had an official rating of 150! The 2020 running was won by the Jonjo O’Neil trained Annie Mc who has since gone a Listed race at Warwick. Attracting quality horses year on year and now considered a major prep for the Grade 2 Mares Chase at Cheltenham.

5. New Year’s Eve – Lingfield – 31st Dec

Finish off the old year the way you mean to carry on in the new by visiting Lingfield for an enjoyable afternoon watching top-quality all-weather horse racing. With a competitive and quality card with a Class 2 and two Class 3 races it really is a great way to see out 2021.
